Hurdle Rate
 
Definition: A ratio used to calculate the annual return needed by a Zero Dividend Preference Share to fully repay the either (1) the current share price or (2) the redemption price of the share, after the costs such as loan repayments and wind-up costs have been taken into account. A positive hurdle rate indicates how much a Zero could lose each year before you would lose money, while a negative hurdle rate indicates how much a Zero would have to grow by before you break even.
